Forms of examination
Forms of examination that deviate from the StPO may be chosen as in the previous semester. The following forms of examination are permitted:
The extensions of deadlines decided in the last two semesters are coming to an end. The following list shows which deadlines will be extended or will start anew from this semester:
Students have to register for exams in the usual binding manner. Cancellation is urgently requested up to the 7th day before the exam, but is possible up to the last day before the exam without a medical certificate as in the previous semester.
If you take an exam it will also be graded. If the exam is cancelled a medical certificate must be submitted, clearly stating that the sudden illness could not have been known before the start of the exam. The examination commission decides on the acceptance of the certificate. A subsequent withdrawal from an examination is not possible!
Conduct an examination
The separately announced rules apply to the conduct of the examinations.
Entry into the internship semester is possible irrespective of the ECTS credits achieved, if the students have reached the corresponding semester.
The internship coordinators were asked to assess the internship contracts generously and, if necessary, to recognize also non-specialized companies.

This Summer Semester 2021 the registration period for exams starts on Friday, April 16th, 2021. Registration is possible until Friday, April 30th, 2021. Technical performance problems might occur as a result of high usage rate at the beginning of the registration process. If this is the case please wait a few hours and then try again. Cancellation of exam registration
It is possible for you to cancel your exam registration via Primuss portal / "My Exams" as well. Be aware that a cancellation of your exam registration is urgently requested at least 7 days before the exam.
As proof, you should open these cancellations via the PDF button and print them out or save and keep them.
Due to the Corona Pandemic, it is not necessary to deregister with a doctor's certificate this semester.
Important: If you drop out during the exam, you must present a doctor's certificate which clearly states that the sudden illness was not known before the exam started. The relevant form can be found under the following link on page 2:

Information concerning the examinations
At DIT, we will hold the presence examinations in large rooms, strictly observing all hygiene measures. For examinations with a large number of participants, we will move to the town hall in order to be able to safely comply with the distance regulations in any case.
In some faculties, there have been minor changes compared to the examination schedule approved in November, especially with regard to the start times of the examinations in the town halls. Therefore, please check the updated schedules again.
In order to avoid contacts as far as possible, the following measures apply in principle before, during and after the examinations, subject to other regulations by the faculties

Winter closing of the Studentenwerk and special closing times of canteens and cafeterias
Due to a recommendation for action by the Bavarian State Ministry for Science and Art and the current government resolutions to contain the coronavirus, the canteens and cafeterias are closed from December 16, 2020 to January 8, 2021 inclusive. During this time, no canteen delivery service is offered.
From January 11th, 2021, new estimated opening times will apply to the open cafeterias: Monday to Friday from 9.30 a.m. to 2.30 p.m.

Discontinuation of presence teaching as of 1 December 2020
Following the infection prevention measures announced yesterday, universities are required to discontinue face-to-face teaching as of 1 December 2020 and have to switch to virtual teaching.

Catering operations in the refectories must be discontinued with immediate effect from today (2 November 2020) until the 8th BaylfSMV expires. The already practised distribution of take-away food (to-go operation) is still possible.

Supplementary information for the winter semester 2020/2021
In addition to the new hygiene regulations, you will find below further information and answers to questions that have reached us recently.
The term "flexisemester" coined at the beginning of the summer semester is often misunderstood. It refers to the fact that the summer semester is not counted in terms of deadlines and standard period of study (the standard period of study is automatically extended by one semester), so that you don't experience any disadvantages. However, this has nothing to do with the semester counter. You can read about this in Art. 99 Provisions for coping with the COVID 19 pandemic (Bavarian Higher Education Act)
Exceptions to deadlines and examinations only applied to the summer semester. No special regulations were published by the Ministry of Science for the winter semester. The organisation of electronic examinations was regulated in an ordinance. How this can be implemented in practice is currently being examined. We assume that electronic examination formats can be offered again in the winter semester.
The person who is ill is sent into quarantine by the responsible health authorities. They have to report to the university. We then evaluate all direct contacts; these are, in the terminology of the Deggendorf Health Office, 1st order contact people. First-order contact people are all those who have been in the same room with the infected person for more than 15 minutes. The student must report private contacts or contacts in the student residence to the Health Office.
All first-order contact persons are sent into quarantine by the Health Office as a precautionary measure and immediately requested to undergo a test. Everything else will be arranged by the responsible public health department in direct consultation with you.
All other students in this degree programme are 2nd order contact persons. In order to protect all of you, the lectures will be switched to virtual teaching for the entire degree programme until the results of the tests are available.
Important: Please send us information on quarantine orders, possible infections and contacts at: firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you have a confirmed COVID 19 infection please report it immediately to: email@example.com.
The government has required universities to introduce systems that enable them to track contacts with infected people at any time. For practical and data protection reasons we have decided not to register on paper.
The recorded data is stored in encrypted form and is only decrypted in the event of an infection. Experience with the first occurrence of infection has shown that complete contact details are required for rapid information of those affected. Therefore:
New from next week on: we will query your name, address, telephone number and e-mail address in future, so that the public health department is able to contact you quickly and safely. This requires the renewed entry of contact data (by PIN) from next week on (Mon, 19th).
Use e-mail and telephone to clarify questions.
Especially in the service offices at the university is often not much space. Keep your distance here as well. Only enter if there is enough space. Clarify as much as possible by telephone or e-mail. You are protecting yourself and the university staff.
Please always quote your matriculation number when making enquiries to the Study Centre. This will enable us to answer your request quickly.
For your own protection your stay on the entire university campus should be limited to what is absolutely necessary.
You may stay in the lecture halls and seminar rooms between your lectures as long as you observe the familiar rules on distance, hygiene and ventilation.
Please leave the campus after your last lecture.
A county or a city that is independent of a county is classified as a domestic risk area if the 7-day case rate is above 50.
In these cases you should pay particular attention to the observance of hygiene measures. There is no ban on coming to the university, unless of course you suffer from symptoms typical of Covid19. However, you should use the digital services whenever possible and limit contact with fellow students as much as possible.

New corona regulations apply as of Friday, 16 October 2020

Mask obligation: According to a decision by the Federal Government, the following regulation now applies: "Mask obligation already applies from a case rate of 35 where people come together more closely and/or for longer periods of time. If the rate rises above the threshold of 50, the obligation to wear a mask should be extended once again". THEREFORE, FROM NOW ON, THE OBLIGATION TO WEAR A MASK ALSO APPLIES TO THE LECTURES. This means that masks are compulsory throughout the entire campuses of the university (with the exception of offices) - including outdoor areas. This applies to ALL locations of the university.
Lecture regulations: All classroom lectures can immediately be transferred to a virtual or semi-virtual mode in agreement between lecturers and students without further authorisation.
For lectures that will continue to be held in presence, I would like to underline the urgent request of the student representatives: In addition to presence, all lectures should be offered in parallel online (i.e. streaming in "real time" to the net) or virtual (recording and providing a can), so that students have the opportunity to decide whether they want to expose themselves to the potential risk when sitting in a lecture hall.
Students who are not allowed to come to the university due to mild symptoms or quarantine have the right to be taught the material! I appeal here to the moral responsibility of our lecturers towards the students.
To be on the safe side, please be prepared to switch back to fully virtual operation in the course of the semester.

Semester start at the locations in Deggendorf, Pfarrkirchen and Cham is 1 October, 2020. On 1 and 2 October 2020 there will be a welcome and introduction event for first-year students.

For the Deggendorf Institute of Technology (DIT), the implementation of face-to-face lectures has the highest priority. The current hygiene and distance rules of 1.5m apply, which must also be observed in all lecture halls, laboratories and seminar rooms.
This means that, depending on the room, only 30 - 50% of the usual seats are available, resulting in reduced presence with a high virtual component.
The following priorities apply to the implementation of classroom lectures:
As far as possible, English degree programmes (including ECRI) are also offered virtually for all students who are not able to travel to Germany.
If you belong to a risk group or if another handicap prevents you from attending the face-to-face lectures, please contact the representative of your faculty.
Pregnant women are also subject to increased protection regulations: please contact Kathrin Kuffer via e-mail and arrange a consultation appointment.
Unfortunately, it is not possible to make reliable statements. If the number of infections continues to fall, more people will be able to be taught in one room and thus more classroom sessions will be offered.
If there is a second wave of infection, it may be necessary to reduce attendance to a minimum for all semesters.
We assume that it will continue to be difficult to enter Germany from some countries or that visas will not be issued. As far as possible, we will offer virtual classes independent of classroom teaching. You will receive confirmation to ensure your admission is still valid.
Unfortunately, we’re not able to answer this question. It strongly depends on your personal situation. If you are from the immediate area, then renting an apartment at the study location is probably not necessary. If you are a first semester student and you have a longer journey from your home address, we would strongly recommend renting an apartment in Deggendorf, Pfarrkirchen or Cham.
Basically living at the place of study is recommended because you will have better contact to your fellow students and you can participate in classroom activities much easier.
Please also note that we cannot guarantee that every lecture will be available online or as a recording.
During the summer semester 2020, we were all surprised by the pandemic, both students and lecturers. Since it was not clear at the beginning of the semester whether a regular semester could take place, it was decided to suspend regulations for one semester and to find very student-friendly regulations, such as suspending deadlines and allowing exams to be cancelled after participation.
Based on the experiences of the summer semester, it can be stated that the solely virtual operation means clear restrictions in communication, but it is still possible to impart the required knowledge and hold regular classes.
At the moment we assume that the winter semester 2020 will be a normal semester again, in regards to deadlines and examinations. Here, too, we reserve the right to make changes.
The faculties create timetables that apply to both face-to-face and virtual classes. For face-to-face classes you may be divided into groups so that the permitted room capacities are not exceeded. The faculties will inform you via the known channels (such as the DIT website or via e-mail).
In addition to observing the general hygiene and distancing rules, it is always necessary to register via a QR code system during the winter semester if several people are staying in one room for a longer period of time.
When entering a lecture hall, laboratory, seminar room or service office, you will find QR codes on the walls or tables, which you can use to register with your smartphone.
If you don't have a smartphone with a corresponding function, you can download a suitable app or carry out the registration via another device using the links that are also provided.
Attention: the registration is mandatory, there is no alternative to digital registration.
Your data will be stored encrypted and automatically deleted after 30 days. The rules of data protection are observed.
Be aware that changes can occur at short notice. Inform yourself regularly about possible changes.
Current information for students:
Students in emergency situations caused by the Covid-19 pandemic can also apply for the bridging aid of the Federal government for the month of September from the Studentenwerk Niederbayern/Oberpfalz. The application can only be made online at www.ueberbrueckungshilfe-studierende.de (in German)
For each month of pandemic emergency, a separate application must be submitted in the corresponding month. The September application will thus be available from 1 September 2020. Until then, students still have a few days to submit their application for August.

The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF=Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung) is providing a total of 100 million euros in grants to help students who are in an emergency situation due to the corona pandemic. The grants are awarded through the student and student union.
From 16 June 2020, 12 noon, thisfinancial aid can be applied for online at www.ueberbrueckungshilfe-studierende.de (in German). The processing of the applications will probably be carried out by the Studentenwerk Niederbayern/Oberpfalz from the end of June.
The financial allowance can be applied for online at www.ueberbrueckungshilfe-studierende.de (in German) from June to August 2020 and will be paid for one month after approval. For the following month a repeat application may have to be submitted. The amount of the financial allowance depends on the severity of the financial emergency and amounts to at least 100 and at most 500 euros per application. If the aid has been approved, the account of the applicant(s) will be increased to a maximum of 500 Euros.

1. The corona pandemic has a noticeable impact on the summer semester 2020: Lectures had to start digital due to corona. How are the universities prepared for this?
The commitment and dedication of the university family is overwhelming! I have been able to feel this during numerous visits to universities, universities of applied sciences, technical colleges and art colleges throughout Bavaria in recent weeks. Practical and pragmatic solutions have been found everywhere. In many conversations I have been given the signal that all those involved are determined to make teaching as good as possible. It is absolutely clear that this will require incredible efforts on the part of the universities and represents a major challenge for them. But I think it is fair to say that the semester has got off to a good start.
Weeks before the regular start of lectures, everyone was already working together and consistently expanding the digital offerings. This is an unprecedented joint effort! Our students can continue to make progress in their studies in the 2020 summer semester. Even though it is clear that it will not be a perfect semester: I am convinced that it will be a good one! I want to ensure the greatest possible reliability and equal opportunities - while at the same time providing the greatest possible security. There should be no disadvantages for our students.
2. And what about Corona: Will the digital semester change teaching in the long run?
After the summer semester I will start a round of reflections with the university family to gather experiences: What new opportunities have arisen? What has worked out well in digital teaching? Which screws do we still have to turn and where do we reach our limits? Even if many online offers will certainly become established in the long term, personal encounters, direct exchange on campus and in the lecture hall and presence offers for studying and everyday life at the university are still missing.
But in view of the opportunities, I definitely expect a strong digital boost for our universities!
3. Not only has teaching shifted from the campus to the home office, but the lecture period has also shifted. What are the regulations in detail?
Now it's getting a bit technical: at the universities of applied sciences, the technical colleges, the art colleges and the universities, lecture operations began on 20 April 2020. The end of the lecture period at the universities and colleges of applied sciences/technical colleges falls on 7 August 2020. The lecture period can be shortened by up to two weeks by the universities and by up to four weeks by the colleges of applied sciences and technical colleges. The universities of the arts have their own guidelines for shortening the lecture period.
The prerequisite for a reduction by the respective university is that the subject matter planned for the semester is offered during the lecture period with a correspondingly condensed number of hours or in some other way that takes into account the possibility of studying. Each university can arrange this for itself.
The summer semester ends - as usual - on 30 September.
4. What are the consequences of the cancellation of attendance courses on examinations?
For exams in the summer semester 2020, our universities will endeavour to find practical formats for their students. My advice is to accept these offers. The university examinations that are taken in the summer semester 2020 count.
What is important to me is that those who are unable to do so should not suffer any disadvantages due to examination regulations, deadlines or the standard period of study. We are therefore working at full speed on a regulation according to which the regular dates and deadlines for the semesters and periods of study are automatically postponed or extended.
5. The question of BAföG is also not entirely unimportant. What are the consequences of postponing the start of lectures in the summer semester 2020?
When I postponed the start of lectures, it was extremely important to me to find a quick solution for our students who receive BAföG. That is why I immediately contacted my counterpart in the federal government. Shortly afterwards, on 12 March, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research declared that pandemic-related short-term closures of training facilities and the extension of lecture-free periods are not harmful under funding law. Of course I am very pleased about this.
6. Is a return to attendance courses still conceivable this summer semester?
An opening of the universities and a normal teaching schedule before the end of this summer semester seems rather unlikely to me. But we have to keep a close eye on the development of the infection figures and keep a close eye on the situation.
By the way: Certain practical courses have been possible at the universities since 27 April - in individual cases - under strict hygiene measures.
For example, on the basis of a hygiene concept agreed with the Ministry of Health, students at the art colleges are again allowed to use the university rooms to practise, receive musical instruction or work in study workshops and technical rooms. It goes without saying that all general requirements and recommendations for hygiene and infection prevention must be observed. After all, the protection of health still takes precedence.
7. What impact will the pandemic have on the 2020/2021 winter semester: will the start of the lecture period also be postponed?
This is currently being discussed by the Länder at the level of the Conference of Education Ministers. Various factors must be taken into account, such as the application deadlines for courses of study with restricted admission.
Which, by the way, will be decided soon: The application deadline for admissions restricted courses of study for the winter semester 2020/2021 will be August 20. This means that despite the postponement of the Abitur examinations, high school graduates will still have enough time to apply. For enrolment in programmes of study not subject to admission restrictions, enrolment before the start of the winter semester will continue to apply.
8. What are the considerations to relieve the burden of childcare for students even better?
It was of great personal concern to me to help single students in particular with childcare. I am pleased that together we were able to enable this target group to take advantage of emergency childcare.
9. What is your final wish for this semester?
What else but: Stay healthy! And look ahead with confidence and take advantage of the opportunities that this semester offers you despite all the challenges!
The examination board of the THD, in very close cooperation with the Senate and the study centre, has been meeting in the last few days to discuss a framework, which is the guideline and benchmark for all decisions of the university regarding the organisation of examinations during this semester.
You certainly have many questions about the topic of examinations and examination organisation, either from the participant's point of view, or from the point of view of the organisation or simply because they are often the first point of contact. Therefore, as a first answer to your questions, let me explain the decisions of our meeting below.
The aim of our guidelines is to mitigate as far as possible the hardships that our students may face this semester due to the severely impaired study and examination schedule.
The Senate of the Deggendorf Institute of Technology gives us the freedom for our plans by suspending §§ 5 - 7 and 10 until 30 September 2020. These paragraphs essentially concern deadlines which our students would not be able to meet in many cases due to the special circumstances.
From 20 April 2020 at the latest, all lecturers will make the contents of their subjects available in digital form. They have been obliged to do so by the President, but of course they are also concerned about this themselves, so that you, the students, can get through this difficult semester in the best possible way. The President asks you to point out to your Deans of Studies or Deans where you may wish or expect better support.

FAQs Exchange Students - Summer Semester 2020
1. Can I stay at DIT even though the International Office has recommended to interrupt my semester abroad?
Of course it is absolutely possible to stay, this is entirely up to you. Students who decide not to return to their home countries must be aware that the restrictions will go on, social distancing is still necessary to an indefinite period and also during the next few weeks there will be significant restrictions disrupting daily life.
2. What will be the procedure if I stay here?
a. Inform us by e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org
b. Check your e-mails, the iLearn portal and the DIT homepage regularly. Any important updates will be published there.
c. If you have not done so yet, please enroll for your iLearn courses.
3. What else do I have to take into account if I stay?
a. Health Insurance
Please note that it is absolutely necessary that all exchange students who are enrolled for the summer semester 2020 have a valid German public health insurance. The German public health insurance will cover all costs if you need treatment in the event of a COVID-19 infection. EU-students: The EHIC gives you the right to access state-provided healthcare under the same conditions as people insured in Germany.

4. What will be the procedure if I decide to return to my home country and cancel my enrolment at DIT?
a. Contact your home university and discuss your decision with them. ERASMUS students: Your home university will provide you with further information concerning the ERASMUS grant. Inform us by e-mail to email@example.com. We will send you all documents which are required to cancel your enrollment here at DIT.
b. Cancel your German health insurance for the date of your departure.
c. Contact your dormitory/landlord to cancel your rental agreement. Before leaving, arrange an appointment for a room inspection (otherwise you will not get back your deposit). Some dormitories will only refund the rent if there is a tenant after you. If you have difficulties to get back your rent, please contact us. It is very likely that your rent will not be reimbursed. Although DIT is in constant discussion with the landlords we might not be successful here. So, please be prepared to lose money. The International Office has published a call for students who still need an accommodation for the summer semester 2020, though.
d. In regards of your study and your ECTS we will find a good solution with your home university soon.
5. What will be the procedure if I decide to return to my home country and follow the online courses from there?
a. Discuss with your lecturers whether it will be possible to complete your lectures online (including final examination).
b. Inform us by e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org. We will send you all documents which are required to cancel your registration at the town of Deggendorf.
c. Contact your dormitory/landlord to cancel your rental agreement. Before leaving, arrange an appointment for a room inspection (otherwise you will not get back your deposit). Some dormitories will only refund the rent if there is a tenant after you (please double check the information in your rental agreement). It is very likely that your rent will not be reimbursed.
d. Close your German bank account before departure. This can only be done by sending an informal letter, including your original signature, to Commerzbank. It is not possible to close your bank account online or by e-mail.

Information for the upcoming winter semester 2020/21
In a few weeks the winter semester 2020/21 will start. This time will be a little different again - quite a lot will be virtual. Fortunately, we can welcome our first year students for most of the lectures on site, on campus.
Disclaimer: With reservations, of course, as we do not know how the situation with Covid-19 will evolve in the next weeks and months.
All English taught courses including all courses at the European Campus Rottal-Inn and Cham, will be taught remotely for students who are not permitted to travel.
We will try to offer at least some lectures on site for students in the higher semesters. Unfortunately, strict distancing measurements in the lecture halls do not allow enough space for all events, so many events will only take place online.
We know that many of you would like to enjoy lectures on campus again and if it were possible, we would certainly love to organise them. But at the moment the risk is unfortunately still too great and spatial capacities are limited.
Despite all restrictions, we wish you a happy and successful start to the new semester!

Reopening of the canteen in Deggendorf
The summer break of the canteen (“Mensa”) has ended. The canteen will reopen on Monday, August 31, 2020 and will only offer food for collection.
Opening times: Mon - Fri | 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The cafeteria in the canteen building, which was open when the canteen was closed, will be closed again from August 31, 2020.
Information from the President for the winter semester 2020/21
Dear students, Dear applicants,
I am sure most of you – as well as our staff – wonder what the winter semester is going to be like. Unfortunately, neither the experts in Munich nor we know how the situation around Covid-19 is going to evolve within the next months. Therefore, all statements are uncertain to some degree.
I hope this information can be of some help regarding your planning for the upcoming semester. I want to emphasize once again that all those plans are subject to sudden change in case the pandemic situation in Germany changes significantly.

New regulations valid as of 27 April:
You are obliged to wear a mask: Masks must be worn on entering the building. This is a rule for everyone except staff in their respective office. In the wooden cottage in front of the mensa, there will be a mask sale between 9am to 5pm (as long as supply lasts), re-usable masks with DIT logo 5€ and disposable masks 1€.
The library will offer lending only from 9am – 5pm, however, students don’t have to make an appointment in advance.
Computer rooms can be used for lectures if the software can only be accessed on campus. The following rules apply:

Exams in the 2020 summer semester
DIT decides on framework for the organisation and carrying out of exams.
DIT’s examination board, in very close coordination with the Senate and Centre for Studies created a framework, which serves as a guideline and benchmark for all decisions regarding the organisation of exams in this semester. You will certainly have many questions on the subject of exams and exam organisation, be it from the perspective of the participants, be it from the perspective of the organisation or simply because you are often the first point of contact. Our aim is to shape this semster as smooth as possible for our students despite the difficulties and severely limited study and exam situation in this semester. The senate of the university gives us the freedom for our project by suspending §§ 5 - 7 and 10 until 30.09.2020 These paragraphs mainly concern deadlines that our students would in many cases not be able to meet. From 20.04. at the latest, all lecturers will make the contents of their subjects available in digital form. They have been obliged to do so by the President, but of course it is also their own concern, so that you, the students, can get through this difficult semester to come. DIT is starting immediately in all faculties with increased provision of teaching content in electronic form.
Professors and lecturers are now beginning to hold virtual lectures according to the usual schedule in real time - students should ask their respective lecturers directly for details.
By 20 April 2020 at the latest, contents for all planned lectures should be available in electronic form.

Closing of the library
Against the background of the spread of the corona virus, the library of the Deggendorf Institute of Technology has been closed to the public until April 19, 2020, as ordered by the Bavarian State Ministry of Science and Art.
We consider ourselves fortunate that we have been able to license a large number of e-books in recent years, so that a great deal of content will be available to you during this period until the start of lectures.
