The International Office offer a variety of events, workshops and lectures from foreign guests, to help students select and prepare for a semester abroad whilst promoting the internationality of our university.

Spontaneous events will be posted on Facebook. We look forward to your participation and wish you lots of fun!

Here's a selection of some of our events:

Orientation week and intensive German prep courses

The orientation week and Intensive German prep courses are for international students every semester, during Orientation Week approx. one week before semester start. In these 2 weeks, all formalities such as registering in the town council, getting a visa, obtaining health insurance, receiving a guided tour of the campus, etc. are completed. We also organize social activities during Orientation Week: a pub crawl, day trips, Bavarian evening, and lots more. To find out more, send a mail to .

Ländertage (National Days)

Every year in the winter semester, national days for Asia, Latin-America and USA/Canada take place as well as the International Partners Day every year in the summer semester. These information days are intended for all students who are interested in a work or study semester abroad. Travelled students report of their expereinces worldwide, foreign exchange students present their home universities, and general information on applying, financing and planning an international semester is given.

Get-togethers for ERASMUS+ and Students Going Overseas

We organize get-togethers every year around the end of March to the beginnning of April for students who are intending to participate either in the ERASMUS+ programme or study internationally in one of our partner universities. These get-togethers are compulsory and respective students will be invited. Students can collect many tips and advice on how to proceed regarding the semester abroad, both from the International Office and from experienced exchange students who have now returned to DIT.

International Week (every May)

For all students and pupils who are interested in a stay abroad (studies, internship or year abroad after school) or who are simply interested in different countries. During this week, there are various events, e.g. an international soccer tournament, "Taste the World" (our international food fair), presentation of various countries, presentation of foreign students and lecturers, study and internship placement agencies and a lot more.

Erzählcafé (Chat Café)

The idea of the Erzählcafé is to encourage intercultural communication between students from various nations and across all age limits. In cooperation with the local cultural office, guest lectures make presentations and a host presents topics about integration. All those who are interested are invited to join this "chat café" in the Handwerksmuseum.

More information can be found in our Erzählcafé flyer.

Host Family Programme

The Host Family Program is DIT's own project, in which local host families invite international students for example to dinner or afternoon tea, or to join them for a local day trip out.

It provides citizens of Deggendorf and its surroundings the opportunity to meet with international students, to exchange and to get to know better. For several years, this program results in a very sustainable form of social integration of international students outside the university in their temporary home choice Deggendorf in Lower Bavaria and thus supports the care work/ social work at the THD intensive.

The aim of this project is to give international students an insight into Bavarian family lifestyle and to offer them a chance to build up contact and friendships outside the university community.

For more information, please contact Ms. Deborah Lehman-Irl, Marion Löffelmann () or the International Office, room B 210 at Ariadna Schmidt ().

English To-Go

Come to Café Holler to activate your English, meet other people from different countries and learn new things!

Here is your chance do all of this (and more) in a relaxed atmosphere at our intercultural conversation group (“interkulturelle Begegnung”)  where international students from the THD and local people, young and older, get together informally. English To-Go is for people of ALL ages and ALL levels of English! Host Families, or people who might like to participate, are particularly welcome to join us! Why not meet “your” international student guest at English To-Go?

There are no fees and no signing-up! Everyone who is interested in the international spirit of our university is more than welcome to come along.
