The future of cars is becoming more eco-conscious. As cars begin to emit fewer pollutants, or maybe even none whatsoever, the expertise of mechanical engineers will be sought after. They develop not only new equipment, but also improve existing ones. Engines are just an example. The spectrum ranges from the power plant to tiny devices in medical technology. Machines are used everywhere, whether it is to replace physical work or to ease it. The mechanical engineers use their knowledge of physics - mechanics of materials science through to thermodynamics - to find solutions for the continuous array of problems. Those who think of people in oil-stained blue overalls is wrong: Design and simulation of machines and equipment is usually done on for the most part on the computer.
