The standard period of study is 3 semesters, starting both summer and winter semester. The course is held in German. For contents of the modules, their order in the course of study and the allocation of ECTS please refer to the subject overview. The modules teach, on their own as well as in combination, valuable skills that are important for prospective employers and graduates. Graduates will be able to immediately bring in and transfer their skills and knowledge but also to quickly grasp new problems and find resolve.

Higher mathematics

This module offers a more in-depth look at mathematical concepts necessary for computer-assisted processes.

 Technological Databases

Databases are the most important tool in implementing vertical and horizontal process integrations. Data modelling is the missing link between embedded systems (product view) and processes, of which you are a part, over the course of an entire life. In this module, both practical knowledge, as well as the basic theory of databases and data architecture are being taught.

Fluid-/Thermodynamics; Dynamic Systems; Finite Element method / multi-body systems; numeric methods

These modules teach advanced essential knowledge and practical knowledge concerning all relevant aspects of technological modelling. Models are the core of integrated product development and are therefore the focal point of the course.  

Propulsion systems technology

Propulsion systems are the heart of all actuator engineering. Through the integration of electronics and software over the last few years, the systems have evolved significantly and there has been a change. Therefore, there is great demand for the skills taught in this module.


This module imparts practical and essential knowledge for accelerated product development cycles and individualized production, made possible among other things through 3D printing and highly flexible, model-based manufacturing processes.  

Virtual testing

The acceleration of product development is made possible by short iteration cycles that are based on verifications with simulated models. Although this is a key factor for competitiveness, the German industry, mechanical engineering in particular, has to catch up in this aspect. Graduates of this course will be able to build up this skill and thereby promote and support their company.

Innovation management

The engineer must, as the architect of the entire product-life-cycle, not only care for efficiency but also effectiveness. Students of this course will overlook, control and measure this life-cycle with modern methods.

This module imparts the essentials of modern requirement management for flexible, market and customer –oriented product characteristics as well as agile product development processes. The latter will revolutionize product development over the course of the next decade.
