Central aspects in the evolution of mobility include “autonomous driving” and “intelligent mobility” in both urban and rural areas. Even today, intelligent driver assistance systems help to avoid accidents and suggest the optimal route at any given time. In real time, networked traffic systems get people and goods to their destinations faster and are better for the environment. Driverless automobiles are already being tested as well. The transition to electric motor technology is another important aspect. Electric vehicles are particularly environmentally friendly as they drive emissions-free locally on electricity from renewable sources. Furthermore, electrically-powered vehicles could stabilise future energy supplies by acting as mobile energy storage.

Research Group Electromobility

The research group is developing a totally new control system in cooperation with the technology campuses. A constant calculation of the vehicle range takes place through a central computer. All important parameters such as weather, road conditions, elevation gain, all power units turned on inside the vehicle, distance, speed, etc. are taken into account.

The communication between the vehicle’s navigation system and the central computer shows all available charging stations in range. The desired charging station can be booked through the navigation system during the trip and is thus reserved. An integration of timetables for local public transportation and important contact points should also be integrated into the system.

Research Group Transportation Mode Management

CERM: Das Center for Education & Research on Mobility (CERM) connects inter-and trans-disciplinary research with forward-looking educational programmes on the topics mobility, traffic, transport and spatial planning and land use. Our institutional connection to the DIT (Deggendorf Institute of Technology), ensures access to the modern infrastructure of a renowned university with strong national and international links.  We concentrate on the systemic research and development of economic and commercial concepts, as well as technologies and systems for contemporary urban and regional development and participation in knowledge transfer through expert consulting and professional development. The institute has an international orientation with a focus on Latin America and Asia. The content of further education and training activities offered by the Deggendorf Institute of Technology relating to the subject of mobility and traffic are also developed and supervised by the institute “CERM”. A diverse spectrum of modern courses is offered, including extra-occupational bachelor’s programmes, master’s programmes, training modules and seminars.

Research Group Automotive Electronics

The research group works in the areas of automobile data and control system development. It is primarily concerned with CAN, LIN, MOST, and Ethernet/IP systems. Topics for CAN systems include subnet operation (ISO11898-6), evaluating transceivers for subnet operation, driver development for subnet-capable transceivers as well as CAN FD. For Ethernet / IP Systems, the areas of focus are BroadR-Reach-Phy, Audio-Video-Bridging (AVB) and Network Management (e.g. Some/IP).

Further topics are power management of control units for electric vehicles and studies of DC/DC converters.
