The Institute for Sustainability, Environmental and Energy Management deals with various approaches to sustainability, including the topics of environmental and energy management. Based on the courses of the Faculty of Civil and Construction Engineering at the Deggendorf Institute of Technology for the Bachelor Programmes Civil and Construction Engineering and Resource and Environmental Management, the Institute also focuses on communication and the promotion of economic, ecological and sociocultural aspects of sustainability.

Both in cooperation with and for reputable industrial partners, we focus on research and development in the field of sustainable building as well as on consulting, assistance and further education in certification systems for buildings, environment, and energy.

Planned Fields of Research:

The research at the Competence Centre focuses on materials and building products. In terms of raw materials, the four lifecycle phases (production, construction, use, disposal) are examined. In each of the phases, priority is placed on the reuse, recovery and recycling potential of materials.

Concrete areas of focus:

  • Optimisation of material and energy efficiency in resource-intensive production processes
  • Recovering valuable materials from waste flows (e.g. Urban Mining)
  • Recycling and substitution of economically significant raw materials
  • Increasing the use of recyclable materials (RC)
  • Establishing sustainable materials cycles
  • Implementing the Cradle-to-Cradle approach in all phases in the lifecycle of products
  • Conducting lifecycle cost assessments
  • Promoting regional value-added
  • Promoting ecological building methods

Current Research Proposal for the Project:

Examination of the Reduction of Sulfates in Construction Waste through Washing Procedures

Example of a Current Bachelor’s Thesis: Concept for Calculating Value Added to Promote Regional Material Cycles
