The Computer Centre offers a secure way for students and staff to access the university's IT services, using VPN (Virtual Private Network, see Wikipedia).

  • Using VPN Client, a secure connection (authentication and all data transmission will be encrypted) to the Deggendorf University network can be made. In principle, a tunnel is made over an existing internet connection, therefore a pre-existing internet connection (of any kind) is required. Authentication is done using the user ID of the university.
  • With a VPN connection, all users who are connecting to the university network from an external provider (e.g. using DSL) have the opportunity to access all university restricted services.
  • IPsec (Internet Protocol Security) allocates a security architecture for the communication over IP-computer networks and ensures the secure transmission of data.
  • When setting up a connection to VPN with the university, VPN client will automatically assign an IP address from University IP address range.
  • VPN Clients and installation guide can be downloaded here.
