This year, we are celebrating our 25th jubilee. For this reason the university is reflecting on a quarter of a century of rapid growth and expansion as well as numerous successes. “25 years future” is the motto of this anniversary, as we have constantly been focused on the future since our foundation in 1994.

20190129 CampusAbout 7,000 young people study today at the main campus in Deggendorf and at the European Campus in Pfarrkirchen. 20% of them who arrived in October are from all over the world. No one ever imagined such a great development in the year of foundation.

Step-by-step we followed economic and social trends to launch new, attractive study courses completed by a wide range of modern, career-integrated courses and intensive research work. We collaborate with the regional economy, focusing on the transfer of science and technology expertise as well as building up an excellent regional and international network. Currently we are proud to be the fastest growing and most international university of applied sciences in Bavaria.

There is a strong connecting link between the university, the town of Deggendorf and the region of the Bavarian Forest. Today it is seen as a young, modern and multicultural town with a colourful urban image, which is hugely influenced by the large student population. The town itself and the university have grown together. Deggendorf’s backdrop, the Bavarian Forest, is profiting from our university, too. In 2009 the first technology campus was founded in Teisnach. Ten campuses are planned until the end of 2020. These technology campuses support regional companies in questions of research, development and consultation. As a consequence, young highly-qualified people have great perspectives in the local environment.

20190129 Campus NeubauHaving innovative ideas and putting them fast into action – that’s the university’s strategy. For example, in 2015 the European Campus in Pfarrkirchen was opened and exceeded all expectations in terms of student population. In the same year, the Faculty of Applied Healthcare Sciences was established. For the officiating president Prof. Dr. Peter Sperber the growth of Deggendorf’s university is a combination of different components. “We made a lot of effort and never gave up, sometimes working in unconventional ways”, explained the president.

The university has constantly focused on the long-term goal. The vision is to have 10,000 students by 2030. Bavarian politcs have greenlighted the next big project, which is a digitalisation centre with a faculty for Applied Informatics and a capacity of 1,000 more students.

The Celebrations

The extension of our main campus in Deggendorf has now been completed, making the campus a very pleasant environment to work and study. For this reason, we are planning a week of celebrations this year from the 21 – 28 June.

Stadt Land Fluss Campus Open Air
2019 stadt land fluss campusfestivalThe festive week begins with a well-known campus festival. Friday, 21. June, will be time for Bavarian rap music from the artists called “dicht&ergreifend“. The next days the lineup continues with electronic music from the headliner “Tube&Berger“, who are two artists that produce danceable electronic beets from the deep house movement. They already had gigs on Ibiza and even played at the large Tomorrowland festival.

Open Day

On the Open Day this year, lecture theatres and workshops will enable a look behind the scenes. We’ll have info booths and an entertainment programme for all our visitors. Markus Söder, Minister President of Bavaria, will inaugurate the celebrations.
