Orientation weeks for international students have begun20170307 orientation week

Around 140 exchange students from 31 nations were welcomed at DIT last week by the 3rd Deggendorf mayor Hermann Wellner and the International Office team welcomed the new internationals.

Dr. Elise von Randow, head of the Institute for International and Academic Affairs, encouraged the students to: “Enjoy the Bavarian flavour and make the best of your time in Deggendorf!” The new arrivals witnessed the particularly good welcoming culture at DIT, with the two-week programme put together by the International Office.

The students receive comprehensive support for studying in Germany and are helped with visits to the authorities, opening a bank account and taking out health insurance. Furthermore, the International Office ensures a smooth study start. Information events about choosing courses and introductory courses for the IT system at DIT are carried out. In order to add to the international students’ seamless integration, German language courses and intercultural trainings are held during orientation weeks.

Students planning on doing an internship in Germany after their exchange semester are prepared for the German application process. Alongside the official programme, a multi-facetted social programme, planned by the AKI Club International e.V., a students’ social club, accompanies orientation weeks. Events such as a Bavarian evening, a welcoming party and many more are held during the two weeks. Furthermore, a weekend trip to Neuschwanstein Castle is organized. Currently, there are 720 international students from 84 different nations studying at DIT.
