vb smDIT volleyball team win third place in the German university championships.

A total of ten teams qualified for the German University Cup in the catagory for universities with a student population of maximum 10,000. The tournament involved mixed teams, with at least 2 feminine players in each team.

Team manager Peter Kaiser proved that the strong players, local girls Sophia Kilger, Caroline Wyklicky, Priscilla Gatzsche and Verena Bachmeier, as well as Eric Nestler, Stefan Hickl und Florian Neumann could play to win.

The DIT volleyballers started with a 1:1 draw against the later tournament winner Bundeswehr-University Munich. This was followed by a 2:0 success over the universities of Heilbronn, Wildau and Darmstadt. As the winner of group A, the DIT team then had to compete in the cross-over semi-final against the university team of the Bundeswehr Hamburg. In this semifinal, the already strongly playing Hanseats also had the luck and the referee on their side. The game was lost after tie-Break (14:25, 27:25, 11:15).

Winner of this year's German University Cup was the university team of the National Army Munich, which defeated the uniformed students of the National Army University Hamburg in a tie-break (17:15) 2:1 in an exciting final.

Having won the German University Cup in 2016, second place in last year's title and third place in Rüsselsheim this year, the DIT volleyball players have now established themselves among the top university teams in Germany.
