DInO Talk: Us, together, digital.

Please note: This podcast is available in German language only.

In our podcast, we talk with project partners about digital transformation — particularly in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) as well as public institutions in Eastern Bavaria and beyond. Dr. Jörg Kunz, host of the DInO Podcast and Head of University and Science Communication as well as Press Spokesperson of THD, guides listeners through the episodes and explores how regional developments and technological innovations are driving digital transformation — especially with regard to SMEs.

Dive into the digital future and discover how the European Digital Innovation Hub (DInO) supports companies, startups, and public institutions in developing innovative solutions and strengthening the region as a center of innovation. We build a dynamic bridge between industry and research and are committed to bringing knowledge and technology into the region.

DInO Talk #1: Us, together, digital.
In the first episode of DInO Talk, we talk with Dr. Jane Käser, who is establishing the DInO project at Deggendorf Institute of Technology (THD). The project promotes digital innovation by leveraging knowledge from universities to help companies integrate new technologies. With a Europe-wide network of Digital Innovation Hubs, DInO gives companies the opportunity to test digital solutions like drones before investing. DInO is not a traditional service platform, but rather a collaborative partner for developing and implementing digital solutions.

DInO Talk #6: Paperless Office – More Than Just Saving Paper
For the DInO team, the concept of a paperless office goes far beyond replacing paper with files. It encompasses communication, standardized and streamlined digital processes, and greater efficiency. It also involves not just technological readiness, but the right mindset among employees and professional change management by leadership. Andreas Englmeier, staff member at the Institute for Future Technologies at THD, shares insights into how organizations can successfully make this shift.

DInO Talk #7: Eye Tracking – Making User Behavior Visible
How can companies better understand what users actually do — and how can technology even improve security in the process? Eye tracking helps evaluate usability for websites and digital applications, but it can also serve as a valuable coaching tool, for example in recognizing phishing emails. In this episode, Fabian Engl, researcher at the Laboratory for Safe and Secure Systems at OTH Regensburg, explains how biosignal data contributes to the successful digitalization of SMEs and public institutions. Eye tracking reveals that eye movements are almost as unique as fingerprints — making them a powerful tool for creating more engaging and user-friendly digital products.

DInO Talk #8: Efficient computing power: HPC & quantum computing
Ever-increasing amounts of data and increasingly digitized processes require fast and effective computing power. High-performance computing (HPC) is the solution for many companies. And with quantum computers, the next stage of digital transformation is already in the starting blocks. Finally, the third pillar of high-performance computing is appropriately equipped data centers.
In this episode, Prof. Helena Liebelt, head of the Future Technologies Institute at TH Deggendorf, talks about the digital readiness of SMEs and public authorities in eastern Bavaria and how the actual use of deep tech such as AI, HPC, or quantum must always fit in with one's own business and not be an end in itself.
