Starting in the winter semester 2026/2027, the Faculty of Applied Healthcare Sciences is offering one full-time or two part-time professorships (salary grade W2) for the subject area “Healthcare Law”.
The professorship represents the subject area of “Healthcare Law” within the Faculty of Applied Healthcare Sciences in teaching, research and development. The professorship is grounded in the faculty’s core idea to advance the health and therapy professions in science, research, teaching and practice, and to equip students through their studies to act independently and with legal accountability.
A particular focus of the professorship is social, care and medical law. This includes, among other areas, rehabilitation and participation of persons with disabilities, integration assistance, care law, social assistance law and compensation law. The professorship teaches and shapes the professional legislation governing the health and therapy professions and, in coordination with the existing professorship in medical law, covers all related areas of law. The professorship in Healthcare Law also provides additional capacity to complement the honorary professorship in medical law. The subject area of the professorship further includes family law, child and youth welfare law, child protection law, the history of law (ethics and human rights, legal systems and legal fields), legal methodology, labour law, criminal law, security law, documentation and organisational law, enforcement of rights in both extra-judicial and judicial proceedings, legal application, and artificial intelligence.
In addition, the professorship represents and takes responsibility for the interests and development of the faculty. We expect particular commitment to the development of new areas of activity in the health and therapy professions in collaboration with our partners across the healthcare system.
Alongside teaching and research, engagement in academic self-governance forms an integral part of shaping your working environment within the Faculty of Applied Healthcare Sciences.
You hold a fully qualified law degree and possess in-depth knowledge of healthcare law as well as the legal frameworks governing the health and therapy professions. Your expertise is complemented by experience of the fundamental principles essential to the healthcare sector.
Experience in securing third-party funding, particularly for research projects related to professional tasks within the academically trained health and therapy professions, would be an advantage.
Due to the international orientation of our institute, the candidate must be qualified and willing to teach courses in English. Therefore, excellent written and spoken proficiency in both German and English is required.

Focus on research
The Deggendorf Institute of Technology is one of the most dynamic and ambitious Universities of Applied Sciences in Southern Germany renowned for excellence in research. R&D projects are always rooted in real-life cases, as research staff collaborate with regional and international companies from the private sector to develop innovative solutions for immediate application, mainly funded by national government and EU grants.
For example, between January and April 2023, 27 applications for research funds were approved by the local government, supplying our professors and scientists with the financial backing to work on R&D projects. To further support these projects, professors are granted teaching-free semesters to focus on research work.
Our own facilities provide an ideal environment for applied research and teaching: 3 teaching campuses in Deggendorf, Cham and Pfarrkirchen plus 13 innovation and technology campuses equipped with the best facilities to specialise in a particular field (as depicted) are dotted in a network around the region. Research projects are generally categorised into four main areas: Digitalisation, Sustainability, Intelligent Mobility and Health Sciences.
