We are an innovative, international, pioneering, and multi-award-winning university of applied sciences founded in 1994 and located in picturesque Bavaria, Southern Germany, in a stunning natural environment in central Europe near Austria, the Czech Republic, and the Alps.

Our foundation is formed by a total of eight faculties focusing on business, engineering, health science, and computer science. We have 3 teaching campuses: the main campus in Deggendorf, the European Campus Rottal-Inn in Pfarrkirchen, and our newest and smallest campus in Cham. Additionally, we have 13 smaller technology and research campuses located around Bavaria, each focusing on one or more specialised areas of research.

In total, 41% of our 8,200+ students are international, with 100 nationalities represented in our university community. We are proud to be a very multicultural community, as our focus is on regional cooperation and the expansion of our national and international network. The European Campus Rottal-Inn teaches exclusively English-based undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. 200 partner universities around the world provide students with foreign exchange semesters, internships, and double degree studies abroad. Excellent teaching standards are based on a mix of lecture room theory and hands-on practical work in campus-integrated science labs and workshops, including applied research to the highest level. Job description and requirements

Participate in the acquisition and implementation of research projects, instruct students and prepare scientific papers within the scope of your research. If you are a highly motivated academic with a postgraduate degree in a relevant field of study and a passion for your field of excellence, you could apply to become a Research Assistant. Many, but not all, Research Assistants are doctoral students.

We employ lecturers to teach faculty topics, as well as lecturers for languages, intercultural skills and other diverse subjects. Lecturers are either signed up as freelancers or contracted to full time employment. Freelance lecturers sign up to teach a topic and workload per semester for an agreed wage, while pay-rolled lecturers receive employee benefits as listed below:

  • Bavarian state regulated pay scale of E11 to E13, determined by experience and position
  • 30 days annual leave + public holidays
  • Teaching hours are 19 to 23 hours weekly per semester, depending on recruitment conditions
  • 40 hour working week

Support staff of all kinds are a vital part of the university structure. We employ qualified support experts throughout all faculties, in the main central facilities and throughout all departments of the university in all campus locations. Continuing your studies after completing your postgraduate master degree involves intense research which is written then, after approval of your academic supervisor, published in a doctoral thesis.

Being a university of applied sciences, regulations do not permit us to award doctoral degrees alone, therefore we need to make use of strategic partnerships. As a doctoral student, the first step is to find a supervisor at our university of applied sciences, after which we will help you find a joint supervisor at a research university. Parellel to this, you will be registered at the research university as a doctoral student and employed by the Deggendorf Institute of Technology usually as a Research Assistant (Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter). This offers you an ideal combination of theoretical study and practical research to successfully complete your doctoral studies.



I enjoy working as a researcher because the mix of teaching classes to international students & variety of different projects keeps me engaged. I am currently starting a PhD program and it fits quite well with my work environment since it will involve a great deal of cooperation and flexibility. Access for your partner and family

The Dual Career Service supports partners and the families of newly appointed staff in all concerns about job opportunities and relocation to the region. We focus in particular on providing individual and personal assistance to partners in their search for new professional career opportunities in the region. However, the Dual Career Service also offers advice and support on the topics of finding accommodation, schools, kindergartens, or daycare centres as well as on matters relating to public authorities.

Most children in Bavaria attend non-compulsory kindergarten age 3 to 6 years, which are in every local community. You will be charged a monthly fee but these fees are relatively low as they are subsidised by the local authority (the DIT campus in Deggendorf has a pre-school childcare facility).



School education is compulsory for children between 6 and 15 years of age, whereas home schooling is against the law. Excellent state schools make up the majority of schools and are funded by the government. There is no fee for your children to attend these schools. The primary school your child can attend is usually dictated by the area in which you live, as it is often in your town or village, while secondary schools can be freely selected depending on your child’s interests and academic ability. All pupils living more than 5km away from their school have access to free school buses up to the 10th grade.


Higher education

Higher education at state funded universities and institutions is tuition free throughout Germany. Universities in general have an excellent global reputation and produce future global leaders.

staff mobility

Internationalisation is one of the core focus areas of our unversity and does not stop at staff mobility. Interculturally experienced, internationally active lecturers, researchers and also non-academic staff are the only way to fully realise the internationalisation strategy. There are many ways to acquire intercultural competences and to build up an international network; travel and exchange are two of the most effective means.

The following opportunities are available to all our staff:


  • Guest lecturers to the DIT

Within the framework of the international guest lecturer programme, international colleagues are invited to the THD and integrated into the teaching. The guest lecturers can give entire lectures for the entire semester or individual guest lectures. The International Office has funds available for teaching assignments and travel expenses.

  • Outgoing teaching mobility: DIT lecturers as guest lecturers abroad

Professors, research assistants or other teachers at DIT have the opportunity to teach abroad. Either for a short lecture on your subject, for example as part of an International Week at a partner university, or in cooperation with a colleague abroad. You can be invited directly by colleagues of our partners or you can contact the International Office with your travel wishes and let us know in which lecture (topic) or in which region you would like to teach. This mobility is possible worldwide, but costs can only be covered for the Erasmus+ area.

All interested professors or research assistants are welcome to register on the mailing list teaching-mobility@th-deg.de and will be kept informed about opportunities and invitations from partner universities.

Arrangements for recognition, e.g. via the LUFV, must be checked individually.


ERASMUS+ Staff Mobility

Within the framework of Erasmus+, THD professors and staff can spend a training period at an Erasmus+ partner university. Erasmus+ funding is available for this purpose.

An Erasmus+ stay gives you the opportunity to exchange professional ideas, gain new perspectives, promote your professional development, strengthen your skills and expand your network. Participating in this programme will benefit you professionally and personally in equal measure.

More information about ERASMUS+ Staff Mobility:

1. Target group

  • Only persons working at the DIT are eligible for funding
  • Lecturers, research assistants and university staff from all areas at the DIT can be funded.

2. Funding period

  • Lecturer Mobility: grants can only be awarded for teaching stays of at least eight teaching hours and a maximum of two months. A minimum of two to five working days is strongly recommended in order to effectively contribute to the curriculum and academic life of the host university. Blended mobility is possible.
  • Staff Mobility: the funding period is between two days and a maximum of two months. Blended mobility is possible. Repeated funding is possible for both lecturer mobility and staff mobility.

3. Funding rates

The financial scheme for the Teacher Mobility and the Staff Mobility are identical. The Erasmus+ mobility grant includes travel and accommodation costs, which are subsidised as unit costs. Detailed information can be obtained from the International Office at erasmus@th-deg.de.

4. Eligibility criteria

  • In principle, equal funding for all (according to unit costs and lump sums in accordance with EU guidelines).
  • Everyone should be given the opportunity to realise a required lectureship, further training or business trip
  • Multiple funding of one person is possible

5. Exclusion criteria

  • Rejection by the partner university
  • No Erasmus+ Agreement
  • No more financial resources available
  • Parallel funding for similar costs from funds of other EU programmes

6. ERASMUS+ documents

All necessary Erasmus+ documents and further information on the staff/teaching mobility procedure can be obtained from the International Office at erasmus@th-deg.de.

7. Application deadline

Ongoing application at the International Office erasmus@th-deg.de but at least three weeks BEFORE the desired stay.

8. Selection criteria

  • Existence of an Erasmus+ contract
  • Submission of a DIT application for further education or a business trip application incl. approval.
  • Balanced mobility between engineering and business studies
  • Sufficient language skills and sense of purpose
  • Sufficient financial means via Erasmus+
